Quick answer At Taj Restaurant and Banquet, 247 S Bolingbrook Dr, Bolingbrook, IL, the grill serves chicken tandoori and five boti kebabs: tikka, malai, hariyali, banjara and achari. Malai boti is the mildest and banjara boti has the most heat. All are certified Hand Zabiha Halal, marinated and cooked on our grill. A mixed platter lets you try several at once.
What is the difference between malai, tikka, hariyali, banjara and achari boti?
The marinade. Boti means bite-sized pieces, and every boti is marinated before it goes on the grill, but each marinade gives it a completely different character:
- Malai Boti — cream, cheese and white pepper. Soft, rich and the gentlest thing on the grill.
- Tikka Boti — cubes of chicken in a smoky red marinade, charred at the edges. The classic, and the one most people know.
- Hariyali Boti — green with mint, coriander and spinach. Bright and herbal rather than hot.
- Banjara Boti — a rustic, peppery marinade with roasted spices and a little heat. The one for people who like it spicy.
- Achari Boti — pickling spices: mustard, fennel and nigella. Tangy and aromatic, with the flavour of a good achar.
What is chicken tandoori, and how is it different from tikka?
Chicken tandoori is bone-in; tikka is boneless cubes. Our Chicken Tandoori is marinated in yoghurt, ginger and Kashmiri chilli and roasted in the tandoor, the clay oven that also bakes our naan. Kashmiri chilli is prized for its deep red colour more than for heat, so tandoori chicken looks fiery but eats warm rather than hot. Choose it if you like meat on the bone; choose tikka boti if you want easy bite-sized pieces with the same smoky edge.
Which kebab is the mildest, and which is the spiciest?
Malai boti is the mildest; banjara boti is the spiciest. From gentle to bold, roughly:
- Mildest: Malai Boti — cream, cheese and white pepper. A safe first choice for children and anyone new to the food.
- Fresh and herbal: Hariyali Boti.
- Warm and smoky: Chicken Tandoori and Tikka Boti.
- Tangy: Achari Boti.
- Most heat: Banjara Boti — peppery, with roasted spices.
For more fire on the side, add a chilli naan, baked with green chilli and coriander.
Which mixed grill platter should I order?
If you cannot decide, order a platter. There are two sizes:
- Mixed Platter — Half: a taste of the whole grill, with tikka, malai and hariyali boti and a tandoori piece. Good for one hungry person or two to share as a starter.
- Mixed Platter — Full: the full grill for the table, with every boti, tandoori chicken, naan and chutneys.
The grill comes to the table on the sizzle. A plate of biryani or a bowl of khatti dal alongside turns a platter into a full meal. See every dish and today's prices on the menu.
